Fact About DNA
Chromosomes are made up of DNA and some proteins. Here are some interesting facts about DNA.
- Genetic information is stored in the nucleic acid, that are of two types, i.e. DNA and RNA.
- DNA has all the information that is required to make an organism. DNA is made up of a long strand with a specific order of nitrogen base which are – cytosine (C), thymine (T), guanine (G) and adenine (A), they always paired up in a unique way ‘A’ always paired with ‘T’, so ‘C’ with ‘G’.- Genetic composition is called the genotype of an organism, while its physical demonstration is called the phenotype.
- A single gram of DNA can possess 700 terabytes of data.
- Every cell of the human body contains DNA. Every DNA strand is 1.8 meters long if stretched but it is squeezed into a space of 0.09 micrometres.
- If uncoiling all DNA molecule strands in a human body and join them end to end, the total length that can be covered is 10 billion miles. That’s the distance travel in a round trip from Earth to Pluto.
- If a human types human genome, at a speed of 60 wpm (words per minute) and works 8 hours a day, it will take 50 years to type the entire human genome.
- DNA of all humans are 99.9% similar, only 0.01% makes us different from each other, and help us to define who belongs to whom.
